Yonel Aris is a dynamic force in the world of theatre, film, and education, driven by a mission to motivate, inspire, and uplift through the power of storytelling. With over 20 years of experience as a playwright, screenwriter, director, and acting coach, Aris has crafted a remarkable career that seamlessly blends his passion for the arts with his commitment to making a positive impact.
A graduate of Florida A&M University with a degree in Theatre, Aris has written, directed, and produced numerous plays, earning recognition across venues ranging from intimate 100-seat theaters to grand stages with audiences of over 10,000. His collaboration with industry giants like Angela Dunlap Borrows and a host of others has solidified his reputation as a visionary in the theatrical world. His works, including The Enemy Within, The Ultimate Measure of a Man, The Right Love Wrong Time, and The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf, have left an indelible mark, with the latter being nominated for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival while he was a student.
Expanding his creative pursuits, Aris ventured into film, becoming the content producer and talent acquisition manager for Florida Film House. His work alongside notable figures such as Master P, Romeo Miller, and the late Tommy Ford has further established his influence in the industry. Aris has several films in various stages of production, with two already in negotiations for distribution. His play Mr. Wrong has been particularly successful, garnering significant attention on major streaming platforms.
Beyond the stage and screen, Aris is deeply committed to community empowerment. In 2015, he co-founded the 1st Take Youth Program, utilizing the arts to teach life skills to inner-city youth. His dedication to giving back is rooted in the legacy of his parents, Haitian immigrants who instilled in him the value of hard work and education. "I work hard every day so that my parents' legacy will live on," says Aris.
In addition to his artistic achievements, Aris is a motivational speaker, author, minister of the gospel, and real estate investor. He serves on the board of Florida Film House and the Urban Film Festival, where he is set to lead the Faith-Based portion of the festival. Through all his endeavors, Aris remains steadfast in his mission to glorify his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, using his platform to spread messages of redemption and hope.
